Building Construction Progress

6 acres of land has been purchased by the Foundation in Oryang Ojuma, 3 km east of Kitgum.
The following construction work has been completed:

  • A water bore with hand operated pump has been completed
  • The land has been cleared of elephant grass, dead trees and termite nests
  • A 7ft high “galvanised chain-link” Security Fence has been constructed around the perimeter of the property
  • 2 @ 20ft shipping containers of tools & equipment from Australia are “on-site”
  • A fabricated steel roof structure has been erected over the containers and the pre-fabricated room used by Wayne and Bev as a temporary residence
  • An 18metre x 8metre steel Fabrication Workshop has been completed
  • 2 additional shipping containers have been purchased and set up on the property to provide a temporary “kitchen” facility and to store building materials during the construction phase of the project
  • A traditional Acholi “Tukul” with grass roof and concrete floor has been built
  • 4 @ 4000 litre poly tanks have been installed to harvest rainwater for the project
  • A “Stone Crushing Facility” has been completed to crush aggregate for concrete
  • A “tukul” (traditional grass roofed brick wall home) bathing area and pit latrine have been completed “on-site” to provide safe shelter for the first of several elderly widows
  • “Staff Accommodation” for Wayne and Bev is under construction
  • A productive banana plantation has been established, and over 100 shrubs and trees planted to beautify the property
  • On-going maintenance of the property with tractor and slasher ensure that grass is kept under control, reducing the risk of rodents and venomous snakes
